AI is moving into the tools people already use. Checks images, video and audio for watermarks from Google, OpenAI, Nvidia and Kakao; not a general AI detector; sign-in required.

What the checker does

On Wednesday 7 October, Google made its SynthID Detector available to everyone worldwide in English. People can upload a photo, video or audio file to check for a SynthID watermark from Google or partners OpenAI, Nvidia and Kakao. Apple says it will support SynthID later this year.

Google is explicit that it "is not a general AI detector": it only spots media from companies using SynthID, cannot tell AI-created from AI-edited media, and requires signing in.

What a miss does not prove

This is a check, not a verdict. Content without a watermark is not proven to be human-made.

Coverage context

A public watermark checker is now on the record for images, video and audio — limited to SynthID partners, and not a general AI detector.
