AI is moving into the tools people already use. 83% of manufacturers using AI use it in HR, finance and admin, 11% in production; North Yorkshire's Tadweld starts a Made Smarter AI project.
Where manufacturers are using AI
A Machinery Market report on Wednesday 7 October, citing Make UK research, says 83% of manufacturers using AI have adopted it in HR, finance and administration, compared with 11% in production, 7% in supply chain and 6% in quality control; only 2% say it is widely embedded across operations.
The Make UK figures are not newly published this week; they are figures reported this week. The dated item is a UK family-run business example: North Yorkshire steelwork firm Tadweld, the first manufacturer in North Yorkshire to start AI Intensive Technical Support through Made Smarter Yorkshire and Humber. Managing director Chris Houston said AI "needs to be introduced thoughtfully and with a clear commercial purpose."
Coverage context
Among manufacturers already using AI, the reported use is still concentrated in HR, finance and administration, with production far behind. Tadweld's Made Smarter project is the new dated example.
