What was reported

A Home Office briefing, summarised by ICAS on 16 October, recorded a 395% rise in fraud reports involving suspected AI use in 2025-26, with losses up from £1.2m to £9.6m, though still a small share of all fraud.

At Abta's Travel Convention, reported by Travel Weekly on 19 October, security expert Jenny Radcliffe warned of a "tsunami of fraud" using voice cloning and deepfake video, and said smaller firms and suppliers are often a route into larger organisations. Her five warning signs: money or something of value, an unusual context, heightened emotion, urgency and a request for action.
