Testing an AI Sales Assistant for a Scaffolding Firm

A test drive of the Sales Android: consent, CRM capture, qualifying questions, and a human handoff.

We test-drove an AI sales assistant — the Sales Android — configured for a scaffolding firm. The aim was simple: see how it captured an enquiry, asked qualifying questions, and when it should stop and hand over to a person.

Starting the Test

We ran the trial ourselves, using a test mobile number and email address. After a consent click, we filled in the Sales Android form. That created a contact in a HighLevel (GoHighLevel) database — the same class of CRM many service businesses already use.

The assistant was set up to handle both industry-specific and general scaffolding enquiries, for commercial and domestic clients. The first job was not to quote. It was to record the enquiry cleanly and start a conversation the team could review.

The Qualifying Chat

After the form, a chat opened and treated the enquiry as a customer asking about scaffolding for roof work. The assistant asked about building height and budget — the questions a salesperson would ask before quoting. Our answers did not match the firm's target profile, and the assistant closed the conversation as not a fit.

That outcome matters. A useful assistant is not the one that keeps every lead warm. It is the one that collects enough detail for a person to decide, and that knows when the job is outside the firm's range.

What the Handoff Is For

Automating the first replies can stop an enquiry going cold overnight. It does not replace judgement. Someone still owns the quote, the site visit and the relationship. The assistant's job is to capture the lead, ask the right questions, and pass a clean record to the team — including when the answer is "not for us".

That is a different claim from "no sales person needed". The test only works if a human remains accountable for the next step.

What We Would Use This For

For a trade firm, the same pattern applies to missed calls and after-hours web chat. Pair a qualifying assistant with a chatbot your team can review, and keep a human-backed receptionist path for jobs that need a conversation.

The Bottom Line

The test showed a complete loop: consent, form, CRM contact, qualifying chat, and a not-a-fit close. That is lead management with a person still accountable — not a sales process running without one.
